Fire and Combustion
One generally accepted definition of combustion of fire, is a process involving rapid oxidation at elevated temperatures accompanied by the evolution of heated gaseous products of combustion, and the emission of visible and invisible radiation. Oxidation occurs all around us in the form of rust on metal surfaces. However, the key word that sets combustion apart from other forms of oxidation is the word “rapid”.
Fire Phenomenon
Fire development is a function of many factors including: fuel properties, fuel quantity, ventilation (natural or mechanical), compartment geometry (volume and ceiling height), location of fire, and ambient conditions (temperature, wind, etc.)
Fire Safety In Buildings
Fire safety in buildings is determined by a number of factors: the provisions of means of escape in case of fire, the ability for a building to resist the effects of fire and to minimize the spread of fire and smoke and the provision of means of access to enable firefighters to effect rescue and fight fire.
Fire Statutory Regulations
Local building authority regulations required fire protection barriers to be installed in corridors, stairwell etc. in public buildings such as hospitals, hotels, administrative buildings etc. All fire resistant glazing system must be tested under BS476: Part 22: 1987 and EN1634-1:2014 and certified by fire authority, FRDM.
Applicable Standards For Fire Resistant Glass
Fire-resistance is a characteristic of an element of construction or of a complete assembly. A classification of fire-resistance for the glass in isolation is therefore not possible.
Fire Resistant Glass and Glazing System
Fire-resistant glazing may be used as a barrier for fire separation or compartmentalization as part of an integrated fire safety strategy for the building
Pilkington Pyrostop
In the event of fire, Pilkington Pyrostop® provides protection against spread of fire and limitation of fire damage. Additional benefit that the opaque insulating interlayer blocks out the fire which minimizes panic, and acts as a pointer and indicate the presence of fire on the other side.
